The Research Center about itself
The RobotRecht Forschungsstelle (Robotics Law Research Centre) was established in 2010 at the Chair of Criminal Law, Criminal Justice, Legal Theory, Information Law and Legal Informatics at the Faculty of Law, University of Würzburg. Under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Dr. Eric Hilgendorf, the multi-member team has faced various legal challenges posed by technological developments in the field of autonomous systems. This has ranged from driverless motor vehicles to industrial or household robots that work cooperatively with human beings, all the way to new forms of artificial intelligence software.
Intensive cooperation with manufacturers, suppliers, users and researchers enables us to deal with liability law, criminal law and data protection issues in a pragmatic way. This guarantees sound legal support for technological development. Our interdisciplinary approach, taking account both of theory and practice, allows legal problems to be identified and analysed, and appropriate solutions to be worked out.
