Workshop „Trust, Law, and Ethics in the Digital Age“

On Friday, October 8th, 2021, the Workshop "Trust, Law and Ethics in the Digital Age", organized by the research group "RobotRecht", was held at the University of Würzburg. The event was held in English and divided into three parts and was attended by speakers from different parts of the world.

The special guest of the Workshop was Dr. Ofelia Tejerina, one of the leading experts in artificial intelligence in Spanish-speaking countries. Dr. Tejerina was the opening speaker of the first part of the Workshop, titled "Trust, Artificial Intelligence and the Law" and gave a talk on artificial intelligence and trust. Then, Prof. Dr. Eric Hilgendorf (Germany) gave an overview on “The New EU Proposals for AI-Regulation”. 

The second part focused on the new problems that artificial intelligence raises for ethics and criminal law. Regarding the relationship between ethics and law, Lucila Tuñón (Argentina) and Leandro Dias (Argentina) offered different perspectives on criminal liability for harm caused by robots and, especially, self-driving cars. As for criminal law, Dr. Carsten Kusche (Germany) offered different reflections on fake news and platform liability.

The last part of the Workshop focused on different comparative law experiences related to the regulation of artificial intelligence. Chang Lui (China) explained the current state of Chinese legislation on this issue and how it differs from German law. Finally, Baran Kizilirmak (Turkey) developed the fundamentals of the criminal liability of individuals behind the AI.
